Course Description

This course provides a dynamic business-oriented travel experience in which students are exposed to real-world business scenarios. The seminar may include domestic or international travel. Students participate in daily focus activities with local professionals while on the travel experience and may attend preparatory lectures before or follow-up sessions after the travel dates. Students will be responsible for travel expenses. This course is repeatable one time for credit. Instructor permission required.

Justification

Most U.S. schools of business now place a strong focus on experiential education and particularly travel experiences domestically and internationally. This course is designed to provide a short-term cultural and educational experience for Snow College students, which will assist them in competing for employment and educational opportunities. This course is also in line with Snow College's mission of engagement and innovation.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students will be able to analyze and identify important elements of business management, technology, marketing, customer service, and/or other valuable business skills, as applied to a particular locale or industry.
  2. Students will explore cross-cultural perspectives; they will identify practices, behaviors, issues, and resources that 1) distinguish the travel destination from the student's own background, and 2) connect to the student's own background.
  3. Students will be able to summarize their individual travel experiences and formulate, in verbal and written formats, methods for applying newly acquired knowledge and experiences to resumes, college entrance applications, job interviews, and other important opportunities.

Course Content

The following content will be covered in this course: Prepare for general travel and local culture.Analyze readings that apply to business, culture, and/or history for the travel destination.Explore and analyze business concepts and their application in the context of the travel location and experience.Experience unique local culture.Travel with other students to build a personal network and share insights as a group.Receive insights from business professionals in the travel destination.
